My topic yesterday was about Jesus doing the will of God, and if you are born again today, you personally are a direct result of Jesus doing the will of God. In this blog  I want to write about us doing the will of God TODAY. As a teenager in an Evangelical church there was much emphasis on doing the will of God, and the dangers of stepping out of the will of God, in hindsight I feel the emphasis was unbalanced. But it wasn’t much better when  I moved into the Charismatic/Pentecostal world, this time it often seemed linked to what is known as the Gift of Prophecy, and people would speak a “word” over your life which was often quite DIRECTIONAL. I personally don’t feel that this is the function of the gift under the New Covenant, I do believe though  what is said can be CONFIRMATORY. It is so encouraging to get that confirmatory word that so confirms what you have felt in your heart. I can testify to a number of situations over the years which so helped me in my walk with God.

There is no doubt, here again is an area that can assist the new Believer if he is Biblically Discipled. Let me give you some keys to help you confirm that you are in the will of God TODAY.

  1. We need to be born again
  2. We need to do what the Apostle John tells us to do in 1 John 1:7  “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. NKJV
  3. We must walk in the Light of the WORD of God and our CONSCIENCE, if we do that John says the Blood of Jesus is constantly on our lives. Kind David tells us in Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights  in his way NKJV.
  4. Solomon the wisest man in all the world tells us in Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might NKJV.  You don’t  have to go round searching, normally there is plenty to do right in front of you. Don’t have the attitude for example “putting out the chairs is not my ministry” do it and to the best of your ability, Promotion comes neither from the east, nor for the west nor from the south Psalm 75:6.KJV Being faithful in the smallest and often insignificant things, is very much part of  being in the will of God TODAY.  Be willing to do it  even for ever if needs be, and if promotion comes along Praise the Lord.  remember you are not doing it for the Pastor you are doing it for Jesus!!!!
  5. We need to have the attitude of Eliezer Abraham’s servant  as he said in Genesis 24:27 “As for me, being on (in) the way, the Lord led me”.NKJV   When you are in the way (in the Lord’s will) he can lead you Hallelujah.

I trust these simple principles will help you, as you learn to walk in the will of God TODAY, please talk to a Mentor,  and let Him walk with you in this exciting experience.

There are of course those times when as the Lord leads you, there are decisions to be made, again sit down with a Mentor but take into consideration the principles I will now share. Some time ago I wrote about the Harbour Lights teaching, and it is worth repeating here. In the past when a ship came into harbour at night, the ship’s captain needed to line up a number of lights ahead, both in the water and on the land, and when all  these lights lined up he knew he was in the right channel, and knew he would either hit the rocks or get into shallow water. Here are 4 LIGHTS you need to line up to assist you in taking the next steps in fulfilling the will of God.

  1. You must have PEACE that this is the right way to go or what you have to do. But remember ALL  the lights must line up, for example have you heard a Believer say I have such peace about marrying this man even though he is not a Believer!!! ALL LIGHTS MUST LINE UP
  2. What does the WORD OF GOD say, the above illustration confirms this, what we plan to do MUST  line up with the Word of God. So we need to be men and women of the Word, regularly reading and studying its truths.
  3. CIRCUMSTANCES are very important, (but remember circumstances alone is not a sufficient guide), the devil will sure create negative circumstances to stop you doing the will of God, and just because the circumstances look good, they alone are not sufficient to confirm your direction.
  4. GODLY COUNSEL seek out your Mentor and seek his guidance on the matter.

God does not want His children in confusion, but we NEED TO KNOW these essential principles, and by the grace of God, daily  continually we can walk in the will of God.

Please let me know if this blog  has helped you, please feel to print it out and share with a brother or sister,

When I think about all that relates to Christ’s first coming, I am genuinely overwhelmed. Starting back in eternity past, our Heavenly Father knew that His creation (yet to be created) would bring sin and all its consequences into the world. JESUS BECAME THE ANSWER TO THE SIN QUESTION  and became “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” Revelation 13:8 NKJV. The wrath of God was on mankind because of Adam’s sin, God could not compromise His justice and holiness, so laid His wrath and the sins of the whole world on Jesus the perfect sinless offering.

The Father decided to involve His creation in the redemption plan and chose Mary, and, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” Luke 1:28 NKJV Although Mary could not fully comprehend all that was to transpire her response was “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.”Luke 1:38 The word Mary chose for WORD  was Rhema, that personal quickened word that produced faith in her heart, as she declared “I am available to do the will of God whatever it may be”. Her womb carried the eternal sinless son of God.

Although He had willingly laid aside the perogatives of deity, even at age twelve Jesus knew God the Father had a plan for His life. The family had been to Jerusalem for Passover and they assumed as they were returning Jesus was with the extended family, when they could not find him after three days, they returned to the city and found Jesus in the Temple discussing teaching with the Scholars,  “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”. JESUS WAS COMMITTED TO DOING  THE WILL OF GOD.  He remained submitted as a son to Mary & Joseph until He was thirty years old. When the time was right, he submitted to Water Baptism, did He hear John’s words I wonder? ““Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”. John 1:29NKJV. Jesus was that Lamb that John who wrote  the Book of Revelation declared had been slain before the creation of the world.

Throughout Jesus’s ministry He declared He had come to do the Father’s will, even on the night before the Crucifixion when He was betrayed cried out in prayer “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Luke 22:42NKJV

In two weeks we celebrate Easter, I trust you are spending time during this Lenten journey to consider all that Calvary and Christ’s death and resurrection and His awesome commitment to do the FATHER’S WILL, that gave you and me, the privilege of coming into the Kingdom of God, being restored into relationship with the Living God, and giving us constant access into the father’s presence. May you like me, be overwhelmed and thank God you are part of HIS ETERNAL PLAN Hallelujah

May I ask you a question today ? Can you do two things at once ? Usually the answer by most is no,  multi-tasking is not their thing. Yet, as Christians from the day we are born again, we must learn to  do two things at once. This is one of the “tensions” in the Christian life.

Jesus tells us in Luke 21:28: “look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”NKJV  or Paul “it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed” Romans 13:11 NKJV

We are as Christians to live constantly in the light of the fact that Jesus could return TODAY. The signs are everywhere that this world system is coming to an end.

As a teenager our goal is to complete our senior High School studies or as a young adult complete an undergraduate degree, when we graduate we start thinking about developing a career, seeking a wife, buying a house, starting a family, yet the Word of God says we are to “keep looking up”  this is totally opposite to what is the normal way of doing things.  So the question is ?

I have been a Christian now for sixty six and a half years,  and I struggle with this important truth  (and “tension”) every day, especially in the light of the fact I have surely few years before I leave this “mortal coil”, plus I am hoping to have the privilege of  seeing Jesus break through the clouds for His Church, when  “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality” 1 Cor. 15:51-53 NKJV I will share some thoughts with you of how I am trying to live with this “tension”.

Let me say there is nothing wrong with all those goals and plans that I have mentioned. Yet my greatest goal must be “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead”. Phil. 3:10-11. NKJV

Just as Paul says in Romans 12:1 we must “continually”  (24/7) be presenting our bodies to the Lord as an instrument of righteousness, so we must learn to “continually” verbalise before the Lord, I AM LOOKING UP, I REFUSE TO GET SLEEPY,  This must become a lifestyle. Most of us are not as disciplined as we should be, but, we can ask the Lord to help us to be obedient to the Word of God.

It would be wise to create a list of Second Coming Scriptures  and read a portion EVERY DAY, and pray “LORD TURN THE LIGHT ON? let this information become REVELATION, let it be a “rhema” word to me,  that it produces faith in my heart Romans 10:17 NKJV. When it becomes revelation it will change my heart and mind and responses to the command of the Word of God, it also produces something special too. “And everyone who has this hope (of Christ’s soon return) in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure”. 1 John 3:3. There will be an increased desire for purity and holiness.

We know the enemy of our soul does not want us to be thinking about the soon return of Jesus, and he will continually be busy “distracting us” and of course tempting us,  in any and every way he can.

My biggest enemy of course is ME, and that is why we need all the help we can get all the time, to live and embrace this “tension”.  I get tired and lazy and sleepy and distracted, can you relate to this??As well as doing the things I have suggested above, get a prayer partner and ask him (or her) to pray daily for you, (and with you) that every day you will LOOK UP, AND NOT GET SLEEPY. Remember I mentioned what must be our greatest goal, as expressed by Paul in Phil. 3:10-11 As a teenager in the Salvation Army I remember singing a chorus, that gripped my life, I am now singing it again daily before the Lord, and making it my prayer like never before.

To be like Jesus! this hope possesses me,

In every thought and deed; this is my aim, my creed,

To be like Jesus, this hope possesses me,

His Spirit helping me, like Him I’ll be.

So, I wonder whether you feel this “tension” I have written about today, and have struggled and been frustrated because of the difficulty of “doing it”. I trust the above has helped you somewhat, I would love to hear from you regarding any aspect of this blog. Some of my readers I have never met, others have I not seen for years, but by God’s grace, I will see you here, or there (heaven) OR IN THE AIR amen

In the Southern Hemisphere we have moved into the season or Autumn (or fall) as our American friends call it. There are still some hot days but it is getting cooler, and soon we will see the leaves falling from the trees. Our God is such a Masterful designer giving us 4 very different seasons so that our world (our planet) can continue to function as it He planned it.

Spiritually, there are seasons too, I was reminded of this recently, I had been experiencing some weeks of a sweet manifest presence of God on my life continually, and I was so enjoying it. I awoke recently and discovered that manifest presence seemed to have left me, and I had to see (it wasn’t immediate)  that the Lord was leading me into a “new season”. Not that I had specifically (or deliberately) sinned or disobeyed the Lord, but the Lord had something to teach me or wanted to do a work of grace in my life.

For example, the physical and spiritual areas of our life are very closely entwined. I have not been feeling 100% well recently, and became aware that I was letting my mind get caught up with many numerous health issues and their potential consequences, that started to rob me of my peace. I am reminded of Paul’s words that “what is not of faith is sin”, and we know the opposite of faith is fear, unbelief, doubt and negativity, I had to recognise afresh that God is sovereign in my life and I needed to re-affirm His Lordship over my life, and trust Him, whether I could feel His presence or not.

I think the emotional and spiritual are closely linked too, we sure don’t live 24/7 on an emotional high, sometimes we may be envious of King David as he brought the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem, he was so excited he jumped and danced with utter joy. Many people are attracted to churches that seem to project Christianity as a 24/7 emotional high, and when that emotion disappears (for whatever reason)  many seem to drop their bundle and “feel” as if God has deserted them

I guess this is again where real Biblical Discipleship is so ESSENTIAL, that a new Believer is taught to “walk by faith and not by sight”.2 Cor. 5:7 NKJV

I think that many Believers both new and not so new get dissillusioned  when they experience a new season, and simply do not know what is going on.

In my experience I have many times had to declare, despite how I feel “God said it, I believe it, that settles it”. I have literally had to walk by faith, and confess  JESUS IS TRUE TO HIS NAME, HIS NATURE AND HIS PROMISES. It sure didn’t usually mean that the joy and peace and presence rushed back into my life, but as I continued to walk in faith, they returned.

I wonder what season you are in at the moment, I trust the above may assist you as you walk through it. I have needed to remind myself these past few weeks about what I have just written about. I do trust it will be a blessing to you.

The period of Lent was created because church leaders were concerned that many of God’s people we getting so busy their spiritual priorities had got messed up, and there needed to be a TIME OF REFLECTION leading up to Easter, so God’s people were encouraged to sit down and consider where they were at spiritually.  Giving up something for 40 days  (like chocolate) has degenerated from the whole idea of spending time FASTING AND PRAYING and pressing into God, and dealing with areas in their lives and getting a fresh touch of the Holy Spirit upon their life and lifestyle.

Almost 4 weeks has already gone, have you taken the opportunity to sit down and count the cost and seek to make some necessary adjustments in your relationship with the Lord.

Are you spending quality time with the Lord every day?

Are you spending quality time in the Word of God every day, and letting the Holy Spirit speak to you?

Are you protecting your mind from all the attacks of the evil one?

Is your environment influencing you, or are you influencing your environment?

Are you seeking to live a holy and pure life ? Is your SPEECH & THOUGHTS pleasing the Lord?

Do you have some “fractured” relationships that should be healed?

Do you need to ask forgiveness for something you have said and done?

Is there something you did and have asked the Lord to forgive you, but you HAVEN’T FORGIVEN YOURSELF?

Am I a channel of restoration and blessing to people? or simply too busy selfishly serving my own ends.

May I encourage you to slowly go through this list (and there may be other things the Holy Spirit brings to your remembrance as well), and honestly make THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS to take your walk with God forward at this time.

Personally, I need to pray regularly “Search me O God and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts, and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” Psalm 139:23-24

Do you have someone you are (literally) accountable too?  James reminds us to “confess our faults (trespasses/sins) to one another that you might be healed”. James 5:16. I said something recently in a meeting that was incorrect, and far from accurate, and as well as asking the Lord for forgiveness, I contacted those in the group and asked  for their forgiveness, and only then did I feel a full release in my heart.

We have all done some “stupid” things in our past  lives which we sincerely regret, and perhaps long ago we sought the Lord’s forgiveness, but the evil one reminds us  of those sinful activities,  and we lose our peace,  as we are convinced the Lord has forgiveness us, we need to forgive ourselves, and as James again reminds us, as we submit to God we resist the enemy (In Jesus Name, and confess the Word of God against him,) for example satan “Greater is he that is in me, that you who is the world”.

I am overwhelmed at times as I consider all that Calvary and Christ’s death and resurrection means. Every aspect of our RESTORATION  was fulfilled. I personally have ACCESS into the very throne room of heaven, and can come BOLDLY/CONFIDENTLY/FEARLESSLY with our petitions to the Lord and know that He WILL HEAR AND ANSWER  our prayers  Hallelujah.

The evil one is a deceiver and a DISTRACTORso at this Lenten time, recognise afresh his  tricks and wiles, and use this period to PRESS IN TO THE LORD, and decide TO PRESS ON TO A HIGHER LEVEL OF INTIMACY AND VICTORY AND PURITY.

May this Easter be unforgettable, because you made time to REFLECT AND FAST and move forward in the Lord. God bless you.

I  love travel, and I guess it is a blessing that I do, as I have literally flown many hundreds of thousands of air miles since the early 1970’s. I am not a sightseer, I have often felt upset when I have seen some preachers who’s cameras seemed is almost larger than their Bible.

My flying days (for ministry) is pretty well over, and there was a time when I began to think about that I would get very sad. Then the Lord led me into Intercessory Ministry, and I am traveling much more now (in prayer) than I have ever done. This is my journey every day in prayer. It isn’t the same, but we read in Acts 9:39 The Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more, but Philip was found in Azotus…….. I think I have a form of Philip’s transport every day in prayer.

As written previously I spend a lot of time preparing my heart for Intercession, with Confession & Repentance and surrender, and then spend time in Thanksgiving, Praise & Worship. I then spend time praying for my close and extended family.  Then in prayer I travel to INDIA.  I pray for a Punjabi man I taught in Kula Lumpur who is Pastoring an exciting Punjabi church, then an Anglo India guy I taught in Sydney who is pioneering in Mumbai. I taught another Indian guy in Indonesia, who is serving the Lord in Kolkata, I conducted a Church Planters Seminar in Chandigah and met a guy who is now pioneering a village church. In the Spirit I spend tine with them every day.

I have not ministered much in EUROPE, but visit a past student (in prayer) every day in Norway. Then another student in Kiev Ukraine, both are Pastoring exciting churches. Through an unusual set of circumstances I began relating to a Scottish Pastor, and preached for him, and prophesied over his son who is now also Pastoring, I spend time (in Scotland) in the Spirit with them.

I then move to NORTH AMERICA, and pray for a student who is pioneering in Canada, then onto San Francisco, then Seattle and visit another 2 students who are pioneering churches. Then onto California to a Malaysian friend who is also pioneering. Then onto Miami to another student I taught in Kiev, who is also pioneering both an English and Russian congregation.

I then move to SOUTH AMERICA where another student is pioneering in both Argentina and Brazil.

I then move to SOUTH EAST ASIA, which is where I carry a constant heavy burden, and intercede much for revival. I begin in Taiwan where I visit 2 spiritual sons who are pastoring growing churches.  Then onto Indo China, and pray for a young man serving in the closed country of Laos, then onto Phnom Penh Cambodia and visit with some friends who are leading an exciting group of churches (throughout the nation) in prayer, and then onto Vietnam, which I visited 32 times. and see in the Spirit a river flowing between these three nations, I see the spirits behind Communism and Buddhism falling, and millions bowing the knee and declaring Jesus as Lord.

I then travel to Thailand (where less than 1% are Christian) and pray for a quality couple in Chiang Mai who are Pastoring an exciting church. I see the river of revival flowing down to Bangkok, and pray for a man who is an Apostle to the nation, and a young man, I ministered too when he was still a student at school, and I was asked to speak at his school’s Chapel service in Malaysia. I travel onto Pattaya, and Phuket, and the South, and see the river flowing into Malaysia. I visit another young couple in Sitiawan (in the North) then onto Kuala Lumpur and have many sons (I was privileged to teach at the Bible College of Malaysia for almost 10 years) there who are doing a mighty job for the Lord, and I also visit East Malaysia, especially Kuching where the Lord is using some dear friends in a special way.

I return to Peninsular Malaysia, and visit in the Spirit in prayer, Seremban and Melaka, and intercede for some more dear friends who are building the Kingdom of God, then the river of revival continues to flow into SINGAPORE (where we lived for 2 years) and have hundreds of friends, I then move on to INDONESIA, a country that is also very heavy upon my heart, AND THE RIVER IS STILL FLOWING HALLELUJAH, I  spend a lot of time here, I  visit Jakarta, and Surabaya, Medan, Bali, Sulawesi, Semerang. Then a quick trip to the Philippines to pray for a young man who is serving the Lord in that great nation.

I then return home to AUSTRALIA, and the list of the Lord’s servants here is long. and all of them are doing a mighty work for the Lord, and it is such a privilege to partner with them, and to believe with them that the river of revival will soon touch this GREAT SOUTHLAND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

I never got to go to the continent of Africa, but many African ministries relate to me, and I visit them daily in prayer too. They are from nations like, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Burundi.

I thank God for this privilege of visiting these nations and ministries, I am reminded of the late Ruth Helfin’s song:

I  ask for the nations I call them by name,

I present them to the Father in Jesus Name

May they not be found naked,, may they not be ashamed

When they stand before You on that great Judgement Day.

I sure did not know when I knelt (as a 10 year old boy) at the Mercy Seat in a Salvation Army Hall, that I would have the awesome privilege of pastoring some great churches, and seeing a revival on two of them, then the 19 years full time of investing in Bible College students in Australia and Singapore, then going to some 25 nations teaching and preaching the Word of God in Bible Schools and Colleges. I didn’t think I would be relating to students I taught  30 years ago, BUT THE LORD KNEW.  Nor did I fully appreciate the impact numerous ministries would have on my life but again the Lord knew, I humbly bow before the Lord and give Him ALL THE GLORY

With the Lord’s help the Intercessory ministry will continue to grow as daily I learn

The Lord knows my heart, and He knows I was not seeking accolades when I asked the question on Saturday, “Do I only have one string in my bow?  I have been overwhelmed at the response, through WordPress, by email and through Facebook indicating that I do not have one string in my bow, when it comes to my teaching and preaching, and even though there is a strong emphasis in a certain direction, it is necessary, and also they have seen the results of this teaching through me,  A very dear friend wrote:

John, I love the English language. A bow with a bow and arrow has (mostly) one string. A bow with a violin (etc) has usually many strings.

So whilst you say that Biblical Discipleship, Holiness, The Surrendered Life, Victorious Living etc are interrelated, there are more than one string. To keep the metaphor going – you are more like a Violinist, than an Archer.  Whilst your blogs often “hIt the target” they more often play a symphony of teaching, encouragement and challenge. Be encouraged.

All I can say is this:

As a result of a number of things that have transpired recently I was feeling a little discouraged,  the many responses, has helped me so much.

There are a couple of other things I would like to raise in this blog. The Lord really blessed me when I wrote the blog on Thursday about who was on the throne of your life? I woke Friday morning  feeling something that I can hardly clearly describe. I felt (and feel) the Lord has spoken to me and placed something in my spirit, which at this time has totally bypassed my mind. But I do not know what it is, in some ways I feel frustrated, in other ways I feel quietly confident that in the Lord’s time He will make it clear to me.

Does this make any sense to any of my readers? I sure don’t want people to think I am going crazy or “religiously weird”. Any comments would be very much appreciated.

The previous blog I wrote commenting on the “Passion Translation” and the Fruit of the Spirit, and the importance of understanding what it means to be crucified with Christ. We know the enemy goes around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, but he is so subtle, in my experience he does not often take the front on approach, but will often use other people, especially other believers, as well as tempting our lower nature.

Again, I felt the Lord really blessed me as I wrote that blog, and it is my heart’s desire to so live a surrendered life that my “old nature is “rendered powerless” continually, and that the fruit of the Spirit grow  PROLIFICALLY in my  life. Then a person in my world began to act childishly and irrationally, and instead of simply brushing it off, I let it get to me, and guess what I lost my peace and joy. (and wanted to commit murder!!!!)

In my Bible College Ministry to students over 30 years, I would often need to make the statement to them, (when something had been said and done against them)

I still need to learn that lesson myself sadly (over and over again).

This blog has been very much about me, which I am not happy about as I sure don’t want the spotlight on me, but I trust the  very different three matters I have shared here may help and bless my readers.  Please let me know ok?

It is said of some Preachers “They only have one string in their bow” meaning they only have one message they teach and preach, “they simply change the text” !!!

I have been thinking, that the majority of my blogs are all about:

Biblical Discipleship

The Surrendered Life

Victorious Living   etc.

They are all interrelated subjects, do I only have one string in my bow??? I make no excuse for the burden God has given me about the essentialness of Discipleship, nor the depravity of my own heart that needs to embrace my inheritance to live a victorious holy and pure life.

I do not consider myself a “Bible teacher” in the traditional sense, as not only was my major and post grad studies in College, Missions, which with the truth that developed over many years  of Biblical Discipleship these have governed my life. So my blogs have primarily been about these areas.

Not as a reaction if it is true, but I sure don’t want to just write blogs to satisfy my interests, I have always simply wanted them to be a challenge and blessing  to my readers. I know with all teaching there must be considerable repetition, but if my readers feel “I only have one string in my bow” would you tell me please?

I posed a question on FB this morning, “CAN WE TALK ABOUT BIBLICAL DISCIPLESHIP TOO MUCH? I have not checked to see if there has been a response, I will let you know in a future blog ok?

I look forward to your response.

May you have a blessed weekend.

I have nearly 300 people and ministries on my WhatsApp list, and it is such a privilege to be able to pray for them daily, as well as those others who do not use WhatsApp. The great thing about WhatsApp is that I can keep in regular contact with them wherever they are around the world, I also seek to send an encouraging word every week to them as well.

Just yesterday I wrote to them recommending a Bible translation that I have recently been introduced too, The “Passion Translation” of the N.T. (O.T. is not yet complete).  I have been greatly blessed each time I have spent some time reading it.. Brian Simmons is a scholar, previously been a Missionary (doing translation work) and the Pastor of a very successful church in the U.S. His website indicates the various Charismatic/Pentecostal ministries that have impacted him.

We know how words can change their meaning, and when you have lived 76+years as I have, there are many words, that now mean something almost completely  different to when it was when a teenager. Sometimes this is reflected when you look at a good Lexicon and can often pick up how the word has changed it meaning. You know one I use regularly Bosko that is translated “feed” but the etymology of the word has a much broader interpretation, as the picture of the shepherd going through the wool of the sheep looking for the cuts and scratches bruises and rubbish caught up in the wool and the fact that the smell of the sheep is on the shepherd.

I heard a sermon on Sunday morning from Gal. 5:13-26. where Pul speaks of the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. So I turned to the “Passion Translation” to see what it said

.Beloved ones, God has called us to live a life of freedom in the Holy Spirit. But don’t view this wonderful freedom as an opportunity to set up a base of operations in the natural realm. Freedom means that we become so completely free of self-indulgence that we become servants of one another, expressing love in all we do.
For love completes the laws of God. All of the law can be summarized in one grand statement:
“Demonstrate love to your neighbor, even as you care for and love yourself.”
But if you continue to criticize and come against each other over minor issues, you’re acting like wild beasts trying to destroy one another!
The Holy Spirit, Our Victory
As you yield freely and fully to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit, you will abandon the cravings of your self – life. For your self – life craves the things that offend the Holy Spirit and hinder him from living free within you! And the Holy Spirit’s intense cravings hinder your old self – life from dominating you! So then, the two incompatible and conflicting forces within you are your self – life of the flesh and the new creation life of the Spirit.
But when you are brought into the full freedom of the Spirit of grace, you will no longer be living under the domination of the law, but soaring above it!
The cravings of the self-life are obvious: Sexual immorality, lustful thoughts, pornography, chasing after things instead of God, manipulating others, hatred of those who get in your way, senseless arguments, resentment when others are favored, temper tantrums, angry quarrels, only thinking of yourself, being in love with your own opinions, being envious of the blessings of others, murder, uncontrolled addictions, wild parties, and all other similar behavior.
Haven’t I already warned you that those who use their “freedom” for these things will not inherit the kingdom realm of God!
22–23 But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions:
joy that overflows,
peace that subdues,
patience that endures,
kindness in action,
a life full of virtue,
faith that prevails,
gentleness of heart, and
strength of spirit.
Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.
Keep in mind that we who belong to Jesus, the Anointed One, have already experienced crucifixion. For everything connected with our self – life was put to death on the cross and crucified with Messiah. We must live in the Holy Spirit and follow after him. So may we never be arrogant, or look down on another, for each of us is an original. We must forsake all jealousy that diminishes the value of others. Passion Translation.

As a born again believer, we sure know something of the struggles we have with the works of the flesh. We read in Romans 6 that our old nature was crucified (rendered powerless) when Christ was crucified.  Yet daily there seems to be this struggle, again I turned to the “Passion translation” and read in Romans 6: 12-13

Sin’s Reign Is Over
Sin is a dethroned monarch; so you must no longer give it an opportunity to rule over your life, controlling how you live and compelling you to obey its desires and cravings. So then, refuse to answer its call to surrender your body as a tool for wickedness. Instead, passionately answer God’s call to keep yielding your body to him as one who has now experienced resurrection life! You live now for his pleasure, ready to be used for his noble purpose.

I love that statement “SIN IS A DETHRONED MONARCH”.  This is our glorious POSITION in Christ, but how do we make it our DAILY EXPERIENCE?  In verse 13 Paul is stating what he states again in Romans 12:1 we must CONSTANTLY & CONTINUALLY PRESENT OUR BODIES IN SURRENDER.

Either our bodies are an instrument of purity and power and blessing or an instrument for sin, the works of the flesh to control.

Will you visualise with me a flower and the centre with 8 petals.

The centre is the agape love of God that was poured into our life by the Holy Spirit when we were born again (Romans 5:5) and the 8 petals are the other FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT (OF CHRIST). The “Passion translation” says in verses 22-23

joy that overflows,
peace that subdues,
patience that endures,
kindness in action,
a life full of virtue,
faith that prevails,
gentleness of heart, and
strength of spirit.

We can meditate on all these apsects of the fruit, I want to highlight the last one which in most translations is interpreted Temperance  or Self ControlLook at Simmons footnotes on the Greek word  Egkrateia (Strongs 1466)  its meaning is Lordship or Spirit strength. This suggests to me that the growth and development of the fruit of the Spirit is not related to how long we have been a Christian  but to:

As Christ becomes the enthroned Monarch then the works of the flesh are rendered powerless’

I am not sharing anything new today, but emphasising afresh to myself and my readers, that Jesus must be the KING 24/7. Surely this is an important reason why Biblical Discipleship is essential to help the new Believer  live under the Lordship of Christ,

I trust this has been a blessing to you as it has been to me.

I am sure I will be thanking God throughout eternity that I came in contact with a church as a ten year old, and I found out I needed a Saviour. It was a church that regularly preached the Gospel and expected to see people come to faith, I was one of those who knelt at the “Mercy Seat” and was soundly born again.

The church also taught very strongly that a person could live a holy life, and this soon became a strong desire in my life, whether the information ever became revelation I am not sure. Sadly, the teen years with all its pressures seemed to win the day over and over and over again. Much of my Christian life I have been so aware of my “deceitful depraved” heart Jer. 17:9 and my walk seems to have been (at times) 2 steps forward and one step back.

When I went to Bible College I learnt there were various “schools” of belief when it came to the doctrine of “Entire Sanctification” a truth that men like John Wesley an Zwingli were used to restore to the Church in their generation.

What saddens me more we now seem to live in a generation where many are more concerned about dotting every I and crossing every T and can react quite unrighteously   if you don’t belong to their particular “school”. I really don’t think God is very concerned about what “school” we belong too, but that we desire to live a holy life.

We now live in a world that seems like it could be called Sodom and Gommorah. There is wickedness and depravity and ungodliness on every hand. There has hardly been a generation like the one in which we live, but I am reminded that as in the “Days of Noah so it will also be in the days of the coming of the Son of Man,”. The Lord’s return is ever nearer, what is the answer?

The Old Testament is replete with commands to God’s people TO BE HOLY, yet over and over again, the Jews failed. Is it any easier under the New Covenant  YES YES YES YES.

The Bible clearly tells us that Jesus dealt with the “sin question” not only taking mankind’s sins upon Himself and carrying them right away, His death and resurrection BROKE  the very power of sin.  The day we were born again, we received the incorruptible seed of the Word of God, (His divine sperma) His DNA plus the HOLY SPIRIT came into our life, The third person of the Godhead’s very name is HOLY and he indwells us. As we learn to ” continually present our bodies in surrender” Rom.12:1 His very nature begins to permeate into every part of our being.

2 Peter 1:3-4 –By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. NLT

Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust. MESSAGE

You don’t need a Theological degree to interpret the word EVERYTHING MEANS EVERYTHING. The challenge is for every believer to meditate constantly on the EVERYTHING, until the INFORMATION becomes REVELATION, the Logos become the rhema word.

Then you add in so many other things we find in the Word of God for the new Covenant Believer:

Our complete inheritance in Christ NOW,

The whole armour of God

Praying in the Spirit.

The “Dealings of God” Hebrews 12: 5-11 tells us

My dear child, don’t shrug off God’s discipline,
but don’t be crushed by it either.
It’s the child he loves that he disciplines;
the child he embraces, he also corrects.
God is educating you; that’s why you must never drop out. He’s treating you as dear children. This trouble you’re in isn’t punishment; it’s training, the normal experience of children. Only irresponsible parents leave children to fend for themselves. Would you prefer an irresponsible God? We respect our own parents for training and not spoiling us, so why not embrace God’s training so we can truly live? While we were children, our parents did what seemed best to them. But God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God’s holy best. At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it’s the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God Message

.“My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
For whom the Lord loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”
If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. NKJV

Verse 10 tells us if we RESPOND to God’s dealings (and these could be a million different things) remember God is sovereign, and anything that touches our life is either from the Lord or with His permission. There is always a purpose and the writer says if we respond it will cause us to be PARTAKERS OF HIS HOLINESS, and verse 11 tells us that the result of responding is the PEACEABLE FRUITS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

And the list goes on and on.  Please do not have the mentality that you can’t have any fun, if you decide to live the holy life.  Simply speaking, holiness is not a set of “thou shalt nots” or thou shall, it is letting Jesus be Lord of your life 24/7 and letting Him live His life through every part of you. Of course it is a learning process, and an “unlearning”  process,  You will find it is the most satisfying fulfilling life that you could ever have. Be prepared to lose friends as they will think you are weird, I want the Father’s smile, over my life, not the commendations of man.

God never asks us to do anything we cannot do.  He has said:
